If you don’t plan on giving more than 100% for your workout and have all kind of excuses to take it slow, don’t take Angel Alicea’ classes.
Five years ago, when I was looking for a real martial arts class at my fitness club, I saw a class called Bo-Hi-Do. I was so thrilled! Bo-Hi-Do means “the art of hitting with the body”. It’s a combination of kickboxing, Muay Thai, boxing and conditioning. That was the hardest fitness class I’ve ever taken and it never got easier because Angel NEVER makes it easy. He pushes you, and yells at you, in your face, until you discover the strength that was hidden inside of you. Many times I got so upset for being pushed, yelled at, and always corrected. It took me years to understand that his “sergeant “style was just his way of expressing his passion of teaching his “arts”. He cares, pays attention to the proper forms and techniques.
Only few months before he left New York in July 2013, he finally complimented me on a technique. What an accomplishment it was for me! I cannot thank you enough for being tough. I am stronger physically and mentally.
